Mexico Prepares 20 Thousand Hotel Rooms for Tourism and Business

Two Mexican hotels are ranked among the 10 best in the world according to Tripadvisor, a travel platform that recently announced the winners of the Travelers’ Choice Best of the Best Hotel Awards.

In the last few years, our country has experienced a significant increase in the number of new hotel rooms, which has allowed us to consolidate our position as a reference in hotel infrastructure worldwide.

Over the next six years, more than 20,190 (twenty thousand one hundred ninety) hotel rooms will be added to the available supply in Mexico, for both tourism and business purposes, according to a report by JLL.

The Mexican Caribbean is the region that will drive the construction of rooms in the short and medium term, especially in high-end segments, stated Alfredo Giorgana, Executive Director of Advisory in Value and Risk at JLL Mexico.

Furthermore, nearshoring has fueled the construction of hotels with workspaces in cities.

“In Monterrey, a city typically known for its industrial nature, what will become relevant is city tourism; there will be a significant improvement in the number of first-class hotels, offering a variety of services and flexible spaces.”

“I don’t believe the luxury sector will see a surge, as the visitors will primarily be working individuals staying for a couple of days”, explained the analyst.

The Riviera Maya and Cancun, together, are preparing nearly 9,000 (nine thousand) hotel rooms in the coming years. Currently, they have an available supply of more than 100,000 (one hundred thousand) rooms, according to the report “Accommodation in Mexico: Performance Highlights.”

Mexico City and Monterrey are jointly preparing 3,685 (three thousand six hundred eighty-five) rooms. Acapulco has no plans in the medium term to add new inventory, only to rebuild and convert existing ones after Hurricane “Otis”.
