Update of the Mexico City Tourism Registry

The purpose of this note is to inform you about the “NOTICE ANNOUNCING THE UPDATE OF THE “MEXICO CITY TOURISM REGISTRY” PROCEDURE, RANTED BY THE MEXICO CITY TOURISM MINISTRY.” published in the Official Gazette of Mexico City on August 5th, 2024, which became effective the day after its publication (the “Notice“).

The purpose of the new Notice is to update and standardize the process of the Tourism Registry in Mexico City (the “Registry“), which is the registration made by the tourist service provider (individual or legal entity that offers, provides or contracts with the tourist, the provision of services, including those contracted through technological platforms) established in Mexico City on a voluntary manner, in order to provide certainty of information to consumers and companies.

It is done virtually in the Portal CDMX, and the onlyrequirement is to have the Certificate of Registration in the National Tourism Registry issued by the Ministry of Tourism (at the federal level). Once the registration is issued, it will be valid for 2 years.

This Notice is a crucial step for the effective implementation of the Amendment and Addition of Various Dispositions to the Mexico City Tourism Law (the “Amendment“), which established new obligations and requirements for tourism service providers (especially those related to digital lodging platforms).

The updating of the Registry, through the Notice, along with the Amendment is a reflection of the local government’s ongoing efforts to more effectively regulate and oversee the tourism market in the Capital. For all tourism service providers, it is essential to understand and comply with these new obligations to ensure the legality and sustainability of their operations.
