The Gabán de Hueyapan Morelos is a warm garment made with sheep’s wool, whose production processes and cultural factors have their origin in that geographical area. This gives the product certain characteristics and a reputation that is attributed to the area of Hueyapan Morelos.
The process of making gabanes in the municipality of Hueyapan is made up of four main activities: spinning, dyeing, weaving and final production. Two sub-processes stand out in the production: the artisanal processing of wool yarn and dyeing in shades of blue, brown, and black.
The backstrap loom weaving technique, rooted in the preHispanic culture of the region, is distinctive of the Altos de Morelos area, especially in Hueyapan, where the making of woollen garments is emblematic. The coats are distinguished by their unique softness, which reflects the interest of the artisans in not only standing out for their elaboration, but also for their texture and quality.
