Update on the legal effects deriving from the Mexican federal government’s latest ruling.
This alert updates our analyses in light of the Ministry of Health’s ruling published at the Federal Official Gazette on March, 30, 2020 (the “Decree”) which confirms a Health Emergency lasting until April 30th 2020 upon officially registering (until the evening of March 30) 28 deaths, 1,094 positive tests and a “rapidly ascending epidemiologic curve phase” due to the COVID-19.

Interruption of judicial activity due to COVID-19
As a result of the global and social health emergency derived from the COVID-19’s pandemic, the Federation’s Judicial Power and the Superior Tribunals of Justice in some States (including Mexico City) have decided to suspend activities as of yesterday, March 18th, 2020, resuming them until April 20th 2020. This means that in both civil and commercial procedures no terms will run, but for constitutional terms foreseen for criminal and family matters that are of extreme importance. This will result in a generalized delay on the judiciary’s times of response for all procedures, including those in which the Firm represents your interest.
